Why opt for MCT?

Why opt for MCT?

Starting to hear the term MCT? Wondering, what is MCT?

We have long incorporated MCT into some of our recipes, meal plans and targeted advice to clients. Whilst it may not suit everyone’s needs (and we certainly encourage when it comes to including supplements into your nutrition you are needs-based) MCT is a fantastic product and option for those who want further support for energy production, fat metabolism and to get their macro balance right for a more disciplined keto approach.

So what exactly is MCT?

MCT oil is a supplement and as the name suggests, medium-chain triglyceride (MCT) oil contains medium-length chains of fats called triglycerides. Due to their shorter length, MCTs are more easily digested than longer-chain fatty acids found in many other foods. Because they are easily digested the main feature being the ‘fatty acids’ helps you to feel the energy more quickly.

MCT oil is most commonly extracted from coconut oil, as more than 50% of the fat in coconut oil comes from MCTs.

Primary benefits of MCT?

Its the fatty acids in MCT that go straight to your liver that act fast as energy. This also can sharpen brain energy too. It is this energy that can support exercise recovery, stamina between meals and improve your ability to focus and get things done!

Who should consider including an MCT supplement into their nutrition plan?

*** If you want a really well rounded smoothie MCT makes for a great addition

*** If you are struggling in the energy department and are focusing in on healthy well rounded meals and drinks, then go for it

*** If exercise is a solid part of your routine, particularly HITT type or weights/ resistance or more formal training then definitely consider MCT.

What MCT supplementation is right for you?

The type of MCT we make available is either in oil or powder form. Initially we suggest to start with a beginner type of MCT in oil format and add to cooking or coffee or smoothies. This will ease your gut, digestive system and body into the way the supplement interacts with you. Here is the starter type by Melrose we recommend. Once you have adjusted to MCT and feel comfortable with it then explore the varieties, keep your body interested and even consider types with flavour or other beneficial supplement combinations like our Mushroom Chai version.                                             n
