Growth Substrate | Rice/ Agar Growth Medium
Why is this important? The growth substrate for Medicinal Mushrooms greatly alters the quantity of active medicinal compounds in the product. Cordyceps usually infects living caterpillars before killing the host and feeding off its body. Fortunately for the caterpillars this process is not something that can be replicated by those wanting to grow this fungi, so all Cordyceps is grown on substitute growth mediums. |
Part Used | 100% Fruit Bodies.
Why is this important? The fruiting body of the mushroom contains the highest quantity of active medicinal compounds. Some manufacturers add the mushroom mycelium to the product as a filler, this is the root system of the mushroom (called hyphae) and has less medicinally active compounds. Our product is free from all fillers. |

ETHNOBOTANICAL HISTORY
Cordyceps was first discovered between 1500 & 2000 years ago by shepherds in the high Himalayan tablelands (above 3800M altitude) of Tibet and Nepal. It has been used for a variety of illnesses, from regeneration of youthful, sexual vigor to increases in mental and physical strength. Cordyceps has been used by Royalty in China Since the 1500’s and in Nepal Since earlier times. Cordyceps is featured in 2 ancient texts, one by Nyamnyi Dorje, a Tibet physician and lama who lived from 1439-1475 called “An Ocean of Aphrodisiacal Qualities,” which highlights Cordyceps’ pro sexual qualities. The other is one of China’s materia medica’s called “Ben Cao Bei Yao” by Wang Ang’s in 1694 which extolled the herbs longevity and tonic properties. In addition, traditional healers and local people of North Sikkim recommend the mushroom as a “heal all” medicine with general strengthening qualities. To this day Cordyceps is used traditionally to support treatment of as many as 21 ailments.
